Coloring
EmoteLab's coloring system allows you to modify the colors of your character's parts through a tinting system. You can choose to keep original colors, apply single-color tints, or use two-color tinting.
How Coloring Works
Coloring works through Part groups, which are collections of character parts that can be colored together (e.g., face, legs, body, and arms all belong to the group "Skin"). Each part group can be set to one of three modes:
- Default: Uses the default tint colors from the model
- Tint: Applies a single color tint to the parts
- Two-Color Tint: Uses two colors to tint light and dark areas separately. Works best with parts that have both light and dark areas. The main tint color affects light areas, while the dark color affects shadow areas
When you apply colors, they're immediately visible on your character in the viewport, allowing you to see changes in real-time.
Locating the Coloring Interface
The coloring interface is located in the Color tab:
- Open the Color tab: Click on the Color tab at the top-right of the interface (it has a color/palette icon)
- View part groups: The list of part groups appears on the left side of the Color tab
- Color picker area: The color picker appears on the right side of the Color tab

The part groups list displays all available groups that can be colored for the currently loaded model. Each entry shows:
- Render Group Name: The name of the group (e.g., "Hair", "Eyes", "Clothing")
- Render Mode Icon: An icon indicating the current coloring mode
- Empty square: Default (no tinting)
- Filled square: Tint (single color)
- Half-filled square: Two-Color Tint (two colors)
You can scroll through the list to see all available render groups.
How to Color Parts
Step 1: Set the Render Mode

The render mode toggle icon is next to the part group name. Click the icon to cycle through render modes.
Step 2: Select Colors
For Tint Mode:

- Color picker appears: When Tint mode is selected, a single-color picker appears on the right side
- Select a color using one of these methods:
- Visual color picker: Click and drag in the color wheel or gradient area
- Hex input: Type a hexadecimal color code (e.g.,
#FF5733,#00FF00) - RGB sliders: Adjust the Red, Green, and Blue sliders to create your color
- View the character in the viewport: Changes are applied immediately. Check the viewport to see how the color looks on your character
For Two-Color Tint Mode:

- Two-color picker appears: When Two-Color Tint mode is selected, a two-color picker appears on the right side
- Two color fields visible: You'll see two color fields:
- Tint Color: The main tint color (affects light areas)
- Tint Black Color: The secondary color (affects dark/shadow areas)
- Click on a color field: Click on either color field to make it active. The color picker updates to show the active field's current color.
- Select the first color: Use the color picker to select the main tint color
- Switch to the second color: Click on the other color field to make it active
- Select the second color: Use the color picker to select the dark/shadow color
- Switch between fields: Click between the two fields to adjust either color as needed
- Colors apply immediately: Both colors are applied as you select them
Step 3: Apply the Same Color Setting to Multiple Groups

When the tint or two-color tint mode is enabled, you can drag and drop color settings from one part group to another.
Troubleshooting
Changes Don't Appear
- Check the group name: Some groups include parts that are only visible in specific animations. For example, the notepad is only visible in the “noted” animation. If that animation is not playing, the notepad will be hidden, and any color changes will not appear in the viewport.
